George W. Dietz Jr., of Southbury, died peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 5, at the age of 82. He was the only child of George W. Dietz Sr. and Justine Brenia Dietz, late of Heritage Village. He grew up in Westchester, N.Y., and went on to receive a BA from Williams College ‘59 and a PhD in biochemistry from Yale. He did post-doctoral work at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and begun his first academic position at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York in cancer research. From there he became a senior neuroscientist at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. He retired to Heritage Village 15 years ago.
Mr. Dietz was a lifelong bachelor and is survived by his first cousin Dorothy Truman, Margaret Powers, John Wefer, Mary White, and Harold Wefer. He will be missed by many dear friends.
